Description
Shining sumac (also known as dwarf or flameleaf) is a large colonizing shrub. Its multiple common names comes from the fact that the leaflets are rather shiny, it is a relatively smaller sumac, and the fall color is a rich flame red. Sumacs tend to be dioecious and require both male and female plants to produce the ornamental red seeds. Site preference is full sun in dry to medium soils. Seed is taken by songbirds in late winter.
