Prickly-ash is a medium shrub uncommonly found in wooded areas. It is not related to ash trees but rather a member of the citrus family and as such possess citrus like aroma from the plant. It suckers profusely and as such is better suited for naturalized areas. It is a host plant for larvae giant swallowtail which seem to find it shortly after you plant it. Be careful as this shrub is armed with prickles on both the stem and leaflets but is worth it to watch the butterflies!
