Yellowwood is a relatively uncommon moderate sized tree that could be mistaken for American beech due to its smooth bark (compound leaves vs simple). Yellowwood is somewhat of a one trick pony but is spectacular when in bloom during mid to late spring. A small tree tolerant of a wide range of conditions excluding poorly drained soils. Its flowers are quite showy and with age this tree makes a stunning specimen in full bloom. It is relatively adaptable and can tolerate dry soils. Avoid excessively wet conditions.
