Wintergreen is a slow growing native groundcover found in well drained woodlands throughout the eastern US.  This sub-shrub exudes what was previously harvested for wintergreen oil.  Breaking the leaves of this plant instantly releases a pleasant smell!  Wintergreen can be temperamental to site conditions and is best suited for filtered sun and mesic organic rich soils.  This groundcover is evergreen with highly attractive purple coloration during the winter months!.
