Description
Winterberry is a medium to large shrub reknown for the female plants which berry colorful red fruits for the holiday season. As a holly, plants are dioecious with separate plants bearing male or female flowers which are popular with pollinators but insignficant ornamentally. Winterberry prefers wet, acidic soil but can tolerate mesic. In heavy clay, leaves often yellow indicating low iron uptake. One male plant can pollinate 5-10 females and hedges are great for wildlife and ornmental apperances in winter.
