Description
This fast growing midwest native is more reknowned for fishing bait than for its landscape attributes. Flowers are incredibly showy late May / early June. Leaves are very large and heart-shaped. Form is rather irregular and gnarly with time. Seed pods are produced in large quantities and can be messy. Northern catalpa is a good option for a large canopy tree that is hardy and tough.
