Common juniper is an uncommonly common spreading shrub with a very large northern native range but rarely cultivated within the nursery trade. This evergreen shrub prefers full sun in mesic to dry well drained soils. Growth is unsual in that this shrub will spread 2-3x as wide as it is tall (4-5′) Plants are dioecious and both male and female plants are needed for the blue juniper berries.
