Cherrybark oak is a very large southern red oak found in moist well drained acidic soils. This species is sometimes lumped as a variation of Q. falcata (southern red oak) or treated as a distinct species. Cherrybark oak will take seasonal flooding but not standing water. Leaves are similiar to red oak but both the twigs and leaves have dense pubescence especially when young.
