American Strawberry bush is a small native shrub found in the woodlands of the Midwestern and Southeastern US.  The spring flowers are diminutive and unusual.  The arils bear its namesake of bursting hearts.  It is a relatively unknown plant great for full sun to partial shade.  Because the plant is green year round, it is browsed heavily by white-tail deer impacting distribution where herbivore populations are high.
