Description
American elm is a stately, fast growing canopy tree which was utilized more extensively for its unique “vase-shape” prior to Dutch Elm Disease which has decimated this once common tree from reaching majestic heights. Growth is best in full to partial sun in well drained wet to medium soils but is durable even to dry urban conditions. The small spring flowers are utilized partially by bees and subsequent late spring seeds are consumed by songbirds and other wildlife.
